What does Boogles Ltd do?
Boogles do all things bookkeeping – we do bookkeeping on and off site, we run bookkeeping training courses, we’ve written bookkeeping books, we have a song about Boogles the bookkeeper, and we have a bookkeeping franchise… all things bookkeeping!
How did you come up with the idea?
I formed Boogles with £150 (my mum lent me £50 and I used £100 of my overdraft) – and I started the company in the same month I graduated from City University. I’ve always enjoyed bookkeeping myself. And I spotted a gap in the market. Basically, everyone wanted to be a big shot accountant. The bookkeeping was the unglamorous, donkey work… and when there’s an unpopular job… there’s always a demand… so we went into doing bookkeeping, helping people keep on top of their paperwork and to stay organised.
What is your top tip in staying organised with bookkeeping?
Set a time aside regularly… be it every Tuesday between 3 and 4pm, or whenever, and just like your favourite soap… set a time aside to get it done. That way, you’ll mentally feel better and clearer, and your heart won’t sink every time you look at the pile. Buy yourself some files and folders, and get a system going which works for you.
What are your plans for the business in 2010?
Books, Games, Toys – anything to make bookkeeping simple and fun!!
I see that Boogles is in the process of franchising the operation, can you tell us more?
Yes, we’ve been operating since 2004, and have expanded the business mainly in London. We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic bookkeeping people to spread the good word (and the good work), and to take our bookkeeping franchise to every corner of the UK. A lot of business owners need a good bookkeeper, and there still aren’t enough willing people. For more information, visit us at: www.boogles.co.uk
